Desenzano Cultural Season Spotlights Music, Theatre, and Theatre Renovation
The season of performances organized at the Teatro Paolo VI in Desenzano has resumed after the Christmas break. The first event took place at the «Celesti» auditorium on via Bagatta, featuring Director Daniele Alberti, a brilliant internationally renowned pianist.
The second event is scheduled for Sunday, February 4th: a symphonic concert with the Romanian State Philharmonic Orchestra. The dates for subsequent concerts are March 11th, April 22nd and 29th, as well as May 6th and 27th.
Theatre and Cultural Initiatives
Not only music, however. There is also theatre. On Saturday, February 10th, the Arcobaleno company will stage Molière’s comedy «The School for Husbands», the first appointment of the program proposed by the European Centre for Dramaturgy Ars Millenia.
«We aimed to focus on quality, as was already the case in recent editions: this allowed us to build a good consensus around the initiative», observes Emanuele Giustacchini, who serves as both Culture Assessor and Vice Mayor of Desenzano.
‘Other Paths’ Project and Music
The theatre schedule has been included for the third time in the ‘Other Paths’ project, promoted by the Province. Regarding music, «this year – Giustacchini further explains – the repertoire will be broader, offering a variety of musical genres dedicated to different instruments».
The «reading concert» format is being revived, where the musician, specifically the Maestro Alberti, will explain the piece, emphasize the passages and themes, and then perform it in full.
«To encourage participation and attract audiences, we thought of holding the event on Sunday afternoon, in line with tradition». The only regret remains that a place like Desenzano, despite its initiatives, does not have a suitable venue.
Structural Issues and the Future of the Theatre
Paolo VI is a hall that can host no more than two hundred spectators. The «Celesti» auditorium, where the concerts are held, is even smaller. There was talk of acquiring (through an agreement or other means) the historic cinema «Alberti», but the owning family was unable to reach an agreement with the Municipality.
The only solution might be the construction of a new facility. However, many issues would need to be addressed: securing funding, but especially location. Building a theatre on the outskirts would not make sense, especially considering that parking spaces in the historic center are increasingly limited and overused.
University Courses and Practical Information
Meanwhile, the courses of the 2000/2001 year at the Università del Garda continue at the social center of via Castello. To attend, participants must be over 55 years old and have paid the registration fee of 15,000 lire.
