Gargnano Volunteers Share Emergency Services Insights with Students
For once, no letters or mathematics. The students of Gargnano’s middle schools attended volunteer lessons, led in the classroom by some exceptional teachers and, moreover, aboard an unusual vehicle.
Volunteer activities and emergency interventions
Dressed in their usual orange uniforms, a doctor, two operators, and Giuliano Chimini, coordinator of the Gargnano section of Volontari del Garda, explained to some classes the procedures for response in case of necessity and the system for operating the vehicles.
Thus, the students, after observing stretchers, first aid materials, and the interior of the ambulance, asked detailed questions about all aspects related to emergency interventions.
Some shared personal experiences where the arrival of volunteers played a decisive role; others recalled rescue operations carried out for relatives and friends. A morning spent in an unusual, yet undoubtedly useful, manner.
Dedication to the memory of Dario Caldana
No one missed the fact that the rescue vehicle was dedicated to the memory of Dario Caldana, a 30-year-old Gargnano volunteer who passed away a few years ago. The technicians provided clear responses, being no strangers to this type of informative service aimed at young people.
Chimini was prompted to describe the equipment and services offered by the Gargnano detachment, which has been operational for over a decade and reports to Salò.
Ambulance equipment and services
The Gargnano section has two ambulances, one of which is brand new (only a year old), donated by a company from Carzago della Riviera (Novasfer) and equipped as a mobile resuscitation center.
On board is a resuscitation doctor. “Our service,” explained the manager, “is quite complex, and it operates both in Gargnano and Toscolano Maderno.”
In the latter case, the ambulance replaced the Croce Verde vehicle that was active until recently.
In Gargnano, however, the ambulance stays stationed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, outside the Poliambulatorio, and is available to 118 for urgent interventions.
This is an important service, as volunteers provide not only the vehicle but also the driver, and the doctor from the public health facility is available to the entire Alto-Garda territory, potentially decisive since departing from Gargnano, rather than from more distant locations, can sometimes be crucial.
Group structure and contacts
The Gargnano group of Volontari del Garda consists of about a couple of dozen committed volunteers, including some young people who recently joined after completing training courses.
Anyone wishing to join the group can call 0365-520652 or 0365-72492.
