Riva Security and Forest Rangers Conduct Lake Garda Bird Census

Even a part of the nautical team from the Public Security commissariat of Riva, which is overall composed of seven men and three boats (but with plans for expansion), participated last weekend in the annual bird census operations on the Trentino shore of Lake Garda.

Monitoring Tasks and Activities

The population verification of anatids (ducks and related birds) is the responsibility of the Riva station of the Ispettorato Distrettuale delle Foreste, which acts on behalf of the Province to monitor these birds in order to understand both the balances governing the fauna and any signals of pollution.

The forest rangers carried out the census from land along the stretch between Riva and Torbole (which can be conveniently accessed); for the section between Riva and the Limone border, the Riva Public Security patrol boat proved indispensable, as did the support of the Riva firefighters’ motorboat for the operation on the Torbole-Tempesta segment.

Results and Prospects

In short, a successful collaboration that will be repeated in the future.
