Garda Lakeside Redevelopment: Ongoing Projects and Urban Improvements
The lakeside promenade is an active construction site. Recently completed is the restoration of the old elementary school buildings, now serving as the municipal offices, and work is currently underway concurrently at the old town hall, the former public housing units, along the lakeside promenade, and also in the gardens of the congress palace and at Piazzale Europa.
Requalification interventions and ongoing works
“We are finishing,” says Mayor Giorgio Comencini, “the intervention for the urban furniture and urban planning redesign of the lakeside area of the town, which had already seen the renovation of the Rimembranza park, the reopening of the congress palace, and the reorganization of dock piers equipped with water gazebos.”
The new municipal building, housed in the former elementary school structure, has been completed and the offices have already moved in. Now, attention is turning to the adjacent historic town hall. Although the official inauguration has not yet taken place, many residents of Garda have already gone inside out of curiosity, and opinions about its aesthetics and functionality are divided: some give positive feedback, others find the structure excessive.
Ongoing works and projects
Right across from there, further projects will soon be realized: the damaged pavement of the lakeside promenade will be restored, the roots of the maritime pines that have turned the walkway into a sort of war zone will be cut, and the current step will be removed. Work is also ongoing at the old public housing buildings on Via San Francesco, adjacent to the congress palace and behind the town hall, where an elderly house and boarding facility is being created.
Additionally, in recent days, the entire park of the conference center has been fenced off for a complete facelift. The fencing also covers a large section of the asphalted square in front of the Terminus Hotel, where an outdoor theater will be constructed in place of the unattractive flower bed, which has already been removed. Inside the park, a paved pedestrian parking area is planned. Between this zone and the outdoor theater, there will be a water basin.
However, there are differing opinions in the town regarding the validity of this project, and it appears that someone has already submitted a request to suspend the work. Construction sites will remain active until next spring.
Timelines and conclusions
“Restoration of the lakeside promenade will take about a month and a half, the elderly housing will be ready by April, and works on the gardens as well as the outdoor theater are expected to be completed by May,” says Mayor Comencini.
