Mantova Proposes Hospital Company Reform to Protect Local Services

“We propose the formation of hospital companies within the Province of Mantova, to safeguard local services,”. The Socialisti Ambientalisti Castiglionesi (Castiglionesi Environmentalist Socialists), after several weeks of silence on the main topics of local political discussion, have resumed their official stance through their political secretary Claudio Migliorelli. He, who is also a majority city councilor, begins by speaking about the safety commission and the position of the Socialists, after resigning from the commission chair three weeks ago.

Position on the safety commission

“Initially, we denounced the instrumentalization that the Lega intends to carry out with this commission and with Zaglio’s presidency. This is a fundamental flaw that makes us consider this presidency unacceptable. We believe that security cannot be considered as an action to be carried out solely through repression. Several aspects must be considered, including broader issues such as employment, housing, and justice.”

Controversies over the hospital and healthcare services

The Socialists also address the hospital issue and request clarifications from the Poma company and regional authorities: “It is increasingly clear that the intention is to sacrifice San Pellegrino for the requalification of Mantovan structures. What is even more serious is that this appears to be an operation endorsed by regional leaders.”

“Not the residents nor the local politicians want this: it would only amplify negative economic consequences that are already in place. We believe a different solution is possible: as already happens with the ASL health districts, the hospital company should also be divided into smaller entities, covering homogeneous parts of the territory,”
