Cycling Race at Risk as Overpass Delay Threatens March 18 Event

A bad dream disrupts the sleep of the organizers of the 41st Marco Alberti Cycling Trophy, scheduled for Sunday, March 18, on the roads of Ponte San Marco, Calcinato, and Bedizzole.

Problems with the overpass on Via Campagnola

The traditional opening race of the national cycling season for Juniors faces what could become an insurmountable climb: the overpass on Via Campagnola between the eponymous district of Bedizzole and Ponte San Marco, above the last stretch of the ring road under construction for nine years now, with the opening date remaining a mystery.

At the moment, that overpass lacks a certification of testing, and without this approval, passage over it will be impossible. Even less so beneath it, as the road below is in a disastrous state.

Redefining priorities and the commitment of authorities

The mayors of Calcinato and Bedizzole, Pierangelo Crottogini and Roberto Caccaro, assure that by that date, Anas will have completed the testing and opened the overpass.

This is confirmed by the race organizers, who rely on the mayors’ efforts to press Anas to expedite the testing process.

Preview of the race on March 18

The race on March 18, organized by G.S. Campagnola Saniplast, is one of the most anticipated events in the Brescia cycling world (the race also counts as the 16th Memorial Sergio Tovo and the 2nd Celestino Fabietti Gold Medal).

The closure of Via Campagnola risks throwing the sporting event into disarray, adding the world of sports to the list of critics of the endless ring road project.

Perspectives and sentiments of the organizers

Ten days before the race, the organizers can only resort to old remedies: crossing fingers and hoping for the best.
