Bardolino Reopens Fish Hatchery, Restarts Stocking Programs
The Ittiogenic Centre in Bardolino is set to reopen after more than two years of inactivity under a new pilot agreement involving the Municipality of Bardolino, the Province of Verona and the Veneto Region, aimed at restarting fish stocking programs. The deal will be formalized in the coming weeks and provides for a one-year experimental assignment of management of the provincially owned facility, with the municipality handling maintenance and operations and the Veneto Region’s Directorate for Agriculture, Environment, Hunting and Fishing providing scientific coordination.
The reopening will allow the centre to resume breeding plans for native species, including carpione, luccio and lavarello, and includes using the facility for educational activities. The agreement was promoted by Mayor Daniele Bertasi with support from Veneto’s regional fisheries councillor Dario Bond, regional councillor Alberto Bozza, provincial vice-president Stefano Negrini and other local representatives, while administrative steps are also underway for a future transfer of the building’s ownership from the Province to the Municipality.
