Trentino Accountant Voices Support for Golf Course Development Amidst Local Opposition

Cesidio Cordisco, Trentino accountant, golf enthusiast, and former executive of companies involved in this sport, refuses to accept the euthanasia of projects concerning the development of a golf course in Basso Sarca.

His intervention, which we are pleased to publish, sounds like a kind of “last appeal.” Here it is: “I am revisiting the golf topic, against my will. It seems that this idea, just for the Alto Garda, is as if it were the plague! We must stay away from it. In my opinion, if it is true that the Marocche golf project will be canceled, it would be a serious mistake.

They are cutting the wings of the butterfly, the emblem of Trentino tourism. In the future, instead of flying, we will crawl. I see a period of obscurantism on the horizon. It must not be forgotten that mistakes originate from afar. Today more than ever, it is very easy to go off the market. In some parts of Trentino, this has already happened. Recovery is very challenging and costly.

This indecision leads us back to the past. With golf, a part of Trentino’s future tourism will disappear. Have the Taliban even arrived in Trentino? Some talk about sustainable development. They are certainly not referring to Valle Giumela or the sports complex that is emerging from scratch south of Trento, with concrete pours several stories high.

Environmental Impact and Future Perspectives

I have never seen a golf course that has distorted the surrounding landscape; quite the opposite. A golf course is beautiful to behold and is an excellent business card. It could, in the future, be the showcase of Trentino tourism. The butterfly can display itself proudly.

In the past, the Dro Municipal Council showed foresight and, I realize only now, courage. I had a meeting with them, and they seemed very determined. I continue to believe that the golf issue has been poorly handled. The unwise continue to dominate the scene.

I would redo the referendum after a proper debate involving the citizens and the representatives of Basso Sarca, who are interested. The structure cannot ignore local will. It remains a matter that affects all of Trentino’s tourism as well as the territory itself.

Basso Sarca must take this initiative to heart; it cannot do without it, as its future depends on it. There are at least two provincial assessors who come from this territory. It seems strange to me that they are not interested in the future of their roots.

In Riva, the lakefront zone was again presented a few days ago—what imagination! Nothing is said about the rest of the tourism sector. We are experiencing a good period, suitable for a reasoned economic planning that also considers the updating of existing facilities and new ones.

Making important decisions is crucial.”.
