Castiglione Council Divided Over Bertoli’s Role in Education Courses
“Bertoli takes credit for things that are not his, which he has always opposed. The truth is that he didn’t want these courses and didn’t believe in them, but now he’s proud of the results achieved through the efforts of others.” A controversy erupts within the Castiglione Domani council group the day after the conference held by the education councilor Giuseppe Bertoli.
Internal Reactions and Criticisms
The news concerns the approval of Higher Technical Education and Training courses in Castiglione. One of the same municipal councilors of Castiglione Domani, the group to which Bertoli belongs, Pietro Mognetti, who also serves as president of the municipal library commission, launched a very harsh attack with a series of strong criticisms against vice mayor and education counselor Giuseppe Bertoli.
“I can only express satisfaction with these courses,” says Mognetti, “both as a municipal councilor and as president of the library commission, as they will mean a lot for our community and those nearby. My thanks go to all the people who worked to bring these courses to Castiglione: Casa del Giovane, Gonzaga High School, Vasari, the Professional Training Center, API, Assindustria, the Union of Commerce, and the local companies.”
He adds, “However, I am disappointed that the press conference was not held by the mayor, who knows the full truth and knows who truly committed themselves to achieving this result, advocating for it in the council and trying to involve our library.”
Accusations and Tensions within the Majority
From these reflections, a direct attack on Bertoli is launched, which is likely to cause a split within the council group: “Even among colleagues, there are those who want to appear good thanks to others’ work. The interview with Bertoli clearly shows that he doesn’t claim these initiatives as his own. The vice mayor doesn’t even know what IFTS are, apart from reading about them to prepare for the press conference.”
“The reality is that he didn’t want these courses to be created or approved. Assessore Beruffi, who was deeply committed to these courses, repeatedly proposed to the council an agreement with Università Cattolica for a socio-economic analysis of our municipality, but Bertoli opposed it. These are envious positions held by Bertoli and others toward the former assessore Beruffi, who was eventually removed for this reason.”
And now it will be up to the mayor to pick up the pieces of this council majority.
