Ancient Rome Unveiled: Society, Women, and Cuisine in Historic Lectures

All about the ancient Roman Empire. Customs, entertainment, women and their clothing and adornment, even culinary pleasures: a snapshot of history, society, and tradition at the center of a series of lectures promoted by the Department of Culture of Desenzano. The series starts Thursday the 15th and concludes on April 6. Distinguished teachers and historians will take turns at the podium. It begins, as mentioned, on Thursday the 15th at 9 p.m. with “Public Life, Private Life in Pompeii,” presented by Dr. Da Vos (University of Trento). The series continues on the 22nd with “Games and Shows of Ancient Rome,” presented by Dr. Betti (University of Milan). On the 29th, there will be “Women in Rome: Clothing and Jewelry,” presented by Dr. Gagetti (University of Milan); this lecture will be held at the Civic Library in Via Anelli.

Final Event

Finally, on Friday, April 6th (starting at 6:30 p.m.), Dr. Carla Boroni, professor of contemporary literature at Università Cattolica di Brescia, will speak on “Pleasures of Roman Cuisine.” The lectures at Palazzo Todeschini will all begin at 9 p.m.
