Lonato Organics Festival Showcases Local Producers and Eco-Friendly Practices
After launching theme festivals last autumn starting with the Garda circles, tomorrow, April 22nd, the Comune di Lonato (Department of Productive Activities), together with «La buona terra», the Lombard association for organic and biodynamic agriculture, will promote the first Organic Festival. The event will feature organic product tastings from 1 p.m. in the central Piazza Martiri della Libertà, alongside an art exhibition depicting rural scenes and musical interludes with the folk-Pastoral group «Samadur».
Exemptions and initiatives at the Organic Festival
The demonstration of sheep shearing by the «Pastori Camuni» association has been canceled due to restrictive regulations – explains the trade and agriculture assessor Paolo Marcoli – “imposed by health authorities for the control of epicutaneous foot-and-mouth disease.” At 6 p.m., aperitifs based on organic products will also be served on tables prepared in the town square, accompanied by the Corpo musicale di Lonato.
In the evening, the band will be replaced by keyboardist Max Carella, who will present a showcase of his piano bar repertoire. With this initiative, the association «La buona terra», headquartered in the Sedena district, was recently inaugurated by the Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio and aims to boost the growing interest in organic producers and, more generally, in eco-friendly production techniques with less environmental impact.
Objectives and composition of the La buona terra association
The association was founded in 1988 and is mainly composed of farmers, but also includes operators involved in processing, distribution, and consulting in organic and eco-compatible production. For a long time, chemical and intensive agriculture was seen as the only way to achieve high yields. Numerous experiments, especially the experiences of thousands of farmers in Italy and around the world, demonstrate instead that it is possible to produce without synthetic chemicals, by using natural pesticides and fertilizers, and by enhancing the biological activity of the soil.
