Riva Hosts 7th Riccardo Zandonai Opera Competition for Young Singers
The musicRivaFestival will host, this year, the international competition for young opera singers “Riccardo Zandonai” held in Riva from May 29 to June 2. Now in its seventh edition, the event focuses on a vocal competition featuring internationally renowned artists.
Origin and Objectives of the Competition
Founded on a fortunate idea by Trentino soprano Mietta Sighele in 1995, during the celebrations of the centenary of Riccardo Zandonai’s birth and the fiftieth anniversary of his death, the distinguished composer of significant opera works, the competition has always had certain primary objectives.
Firstly, to pursue, in the most effective way possible, the memory of the composer from Rovereto, in order to promote the revival of the study of a vocal heritage that is highly evocative and expressive, which has continued to train, even within the European landscape, several generations of young musicians.
Training and Promotion of Opera Talents
Additionally, to provide a concrete contribution to the training of emerging opera talents, through the awarding of prizes as specified in the regulations, to facilitate the continuation and deepening of studies in bel canto, and to offer an immediate assessment of competitors’ potential and abilities by personalities from the world of opera music with global recognition.
