Lazise Church Restored and Ready for Tourist Season
The parish church of Santi Martino e Zeno, after lengthy restoration works that began over two years ago and are now complete, has regained its authentic appearance just in time for the start of the tourist season.
Restorations and space reorganization
And now the splendor is truly dazzling, especially inside, in the apsidal area. The sacristy rooms have also been restored and fully reorganized. All the wooden images of the Via Crucis have been repositioned along the side walls, and all the paintings, including the large altarpiece at the center of the apse, have been properly placed again.
The amplification system has been redone; there are no longer loose cables or aesthetic issues. The wooden doors, especially those dividing the church from the oratory and sacristy, have been repositioned. The organ, restored and repaired thanks to the beneficent intervention of a noble family from Laciso, remains to be reinstalled. The site where it will be installed has already been prepared. All that remains is the on-site assembly and the tuning of the pipes.
Works in progress and issues
Important and costly work still needs to be completed to bring the theater into compliance with regulations; it is located between the church and the rectory. To allow more space for maneuvering equipment and workers, the large courtyard of the rectory — which typically serves as parking for residents without garages — is currently off-limits.
This is an inconvenience for the population residing in the historic center, but it is a necessary price to pay for finally seeing the church properly restored. “It’s a great satisfaction to be able to celebrate Mass in our reconditioned church,” says parish priest Edoardo Sacchella. “And I shared this feeling with the faithful I’ve reached out to in recent days. Now, however, debts remain, but I am confident Providence will be with me, as it always has been so far.”
“Lazise has a great soul and incredible generosity.”
