Malcesine Hosts Major Cycling Event Before Giro and Tour de France

Once again, Malcesine hosts a nationally significant sporting event capable of attracting the attention of all media across the Peninsula and beyond, thanks to its location on Lake Garda.

This prestigious event is seen as a tourism investment by the municipal administration, which, unlike other lakeside towns, has decided to focus for the third consecutive year on the most important stage race before the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France.

The event is scheduled for tomorrow: coming from Sarnonico in Val di Non, the caravan of professional cyclists will arrive on the Veronese shore.

Presence of great champions and course of the stage

Among the participants, all eyes are on pirate Marco Pantani, who in 1999 was a protagonist alongside World Champion Oscar Camenzind in an exciting sprint, ultimately won by the Swiss star on the Corso Garibaldi pavé.

In addition to Pantani, despite numerous setbacks, fans’ hearts are eager and curious to see legends such as super Mario Cipollini, Paolo Savoldelli, Ivan Gotti, Mariano Piccoli, Gilberto Simoni, Ivan Quaranta, and the Russian-born rider now naturalized as Gardesano, Dimitri Konyshev.

Garda Road will be temporarily closed to traffic just before the riders pass through.

The peloton, expected in Navene around 2 p.m. (much depending on the average speed recorded), will turn onto Via Navene Vecchia at the locality of Campagnola, heading towards Prea and continuing up to Passo Campiano, where the King of the Mountains competition is scheduled.

From there, the riders will traverse the entire Panoramic Road to return onto Gardesana near the Hotel Ideal, then turn left to reach the intersection leading onto Viale Roma and the historic center, where the finish line is placed at the end of Corso Garibaldi.

This course will be completed twice, with expected arrival shortly after 3 p.m.
