Garda inaugurates new parking lot with regional funding and management deal
A real bargain for the Municipality, the newly inaugurated covered and supervised parking lot on via Preite, just a few hundred meters from the lakeside promenade.
A guaranteed revenue, since it was initially awarded, and for the next two years, a contract worth 200 million lire per year to the company Edilvi, based in Ponzano Veneto.
“Beyond being a source of income,” emphasized Mayor Giorgio Comencini at the traditional ribbon-cutting performed by the Regional Councilor Raffaele Bazzoni, “it should be considered an added value for residents and tourists.”
Parking Management and Costs
Only two companies participated in the auction for the management of the paid parking lot, with the non-winning bidder offering seven million lire less than the winner.
The parking lot, with 40 parking spaces on the ground floor behind the building that will house the ticket office and bar, and another 120 spaces in the underground level, was built over about ten months by Roda and cost just under four billion lire in total.
The expenditure was almost entirely borne by Regione Lombardia, which committed to pay 435 million lire annually for a decade; the municipal share, in contrast, is minimal, about fifty million lire over the same period of the commitment signed with Venice.
Comments and Statements on the Construction
“This project is also a demonstration of administrative efficiency and what can be achieved,” said Bazzoni, who is credited with initiating the project when he held the position of regional councilor, “when operations are carried out in harmony at the institutional level.”
However, Garda’s first covered parking lot will not be usable before the end of May, as the entire testing process is expected to be completed only by that date.
Inauguration Moments
Present at the inauguration were Maurizio Poli from the Regional Mobility Office, Provincial Tourism Councilor Davide Bendinelli, Don Lino Toffoli who blessed the complex, administrators from neighboring municipalities, and several residents of Garda, who took the opportunity to visit the facility.
