Shroud of Turin Authenticity Confirmed by Expert and Historical Evidence

“The radiocarbon dating test is unreliable. In fact, it’s a fraud, and I challenge anyone who believes my statement diminishes its validity to file a lawsuit against me. In reality, the Shroud was well known centuries before 1290, the year it was dated using radiocarbon methods.

The confirmation comes from miniatures in the Hungarian library of Budapest and from coins of Justinian II. But there is another decisive reason to believe that the Shroud is what it is thought to be. It is the presence of two coins, one located inside the right eye’s orbit and the other slightly shifted.

The coins and dating

They are little coins of Tiberius Caesar, minted by Pontius Pilate in the year 16. Two different coins, but from the same year, which corresponds to 30 BC. And Jesus would have died precisely on April 7 of the year 30.” Thus, Professor Pierluigi Baima Bollone concluded yesterday late afternoon in the conference room of the Grand Hotel Terme his remarks on the Shroud.

The meeting, which is repeated this morning at 11 in Desenzano, at Palazzo del Turismo, was organized by the Lions Club Sirmione, presided over by Antonio Crescini. Before beginning his highly applauded presentation, Professor Bollone also confirmed that the recent news about tests conducted on the sacred linen can only confirm its authenticity.

Verifications and confirmations of authenticity

“It is true, additional tests have been carried out to verify what was on the other side of the linen. They succeeded in inserting a scanner between the linen and the Dutch cloth used as support in 1534 by the nuns. On the back, there are no images—confirms Professor Bollone. The cloth was therefore attached correctly from the right side.

There are not even traces of blood (except for something extremely tiny). In short, the image was not obtained by laying the linen on a heated statue. These are the two further confirmations of the authenticity of the sacred cloth.”

Insights into the Shroud

Professor Bolla Bollone, 64 years old from Turin, a surgeon, has been interested in the traces of Jesus’ life for over 25 years. He is, among other roles, director of the International Center of Sindonology.

During yesterday’s conference, using 80 slides, he explained all the events surrounding the Shroud, a linen cloth measuring 437 by 110 centimeters, which has been found impregnated with many pollens. “It is not a fake,” the speaker stated.

Among the many reasons is the presence of the third dimension which only astronomical photographs possess, that a forger from the 1300s, as suggested by the radiocarbon dating, would never have even imagined. The linen wrapped around a man weighing approximately 70-80 kilograms.

Where does it come from? It is known that the Shroud disappeared in 1204. Perhaps it ended up in the hands of the Templars to reappear 250 years later, in 1454, in the custody of the Savoia family, who transferred it to Turin in 1578, where it has remained ever since.”

Regarding its authenticity, Professor Bollone has no doubts. He dismisses as false the radiocarbon dating carried out in 1988 on a very small sample of fabric, which dated the linen to between 1290 and 1360. The speaker also showed the Sindonico drawings from the first manuscript of the Budapest library, dating back to 1190, well before the Madrid drawings of 944 and the coins of Justinian II.
