Progress at Monte Rocchetta Tunnel Reaches Over One-Third Completion Goal

Work carried out by «Collini-Oberosler» is aimed at piercing the belly of Monte Rocchetta to construct the Limone-Riva tunnel — with a cost of 75 billion lire — and at reaching the outlet halted by the devastating landslide of December 21, 2000.

Progress of the work and timeline objectives

Out of the 960 meters of the tunnel, more than 300 have already been excavated, while the central safety guide measuring 5 meters by 165 meters has been completed. From the center of the tunnel, it allows work on four fronts: two at the entrances of the gallery, and the remaining median fronts, where mines are used for excavation.

In terms of progress, since the start of construction on March 5, the tunnel has advanced by more than a third of its total length. In 45 days, the rough gallery will be a satisfying reality.

Timelines and ongoing modifications

“The schedule,” specify the construction site, “contemplates that by June 15, the rough tunnel will be completed, enabling the old Gardesana road to open to traffic for a few hours a day. This will be done smoothly, with alternating shifts guided by a safety car.”
