Cavriana Memorial Event Honors Mille Miglia Crash Victims After 44 Years

CAVRIANA, 44 years after the tragic accident that took place during the legendary Mille Miglia race, the town of Cavriana will commemorate the twelve victims.

During the 1957 edition of the race, driver De Portago lost control of his car and crashed into the crowd gathered along the roadside, causing a massacre. Today, at Castel Grimaldo, in front of the monument erected in memory of that event, the parish priest of Cavriana, don Dino Mezzani, will gather in a prayer of remembrance.

This will take place at 4 p.m., precisely at the time of the incident, in the presence of Mayor Bruno Righetti and Andrea Portago, the daughter of the Spanish driver who died in the crash.
