Community-Based Oratorys Drive Human and Christian Formation Initiatives

The oratory «Il Sentiero» in the small hamlet of Campagna di Lonato is a genuine hub of initiatives. Don Giordano Truzzi, who is the parish priest, together with the community, developed the educational project positioning it as a «tool and method for the human and Christian formation of young generations».

Thus, the oratory is very active, summoning, welcoming, and proposing. Where ‘summoning’ refers to the «desire to gather» around experiences, initiatives, and activities. As Don Giordano explains, «we don’t want the oratory to be alive only during catechesis days»; if the goal is to genuinely welcome even those who have long been on the fringes of the Christian community, it is essential to make the oratory a point of reference and an attraction hub.

The scheduled activities

Consequently, welcoming means creating a general atmosphere of availability, friendliness, and attention. The planned initiatives, thanks also to numerous facilitators (catechists, sports coaches, service coordinators, etc.), are numerous and varied. There are soccer tournaments open to all ages that excite many fans on Sunday afternoons (the sports field is just a few meters from the parish), excursions, Grest (summer camp), mountain stays (in Sant’Antonio di Mavignola, near Madonna di Campiglio, already a destination in the 1970s for memorable holidays for the boys of that time and today’s dad’s), and much more.

Some examples? Tomorrow, May 13th, election day, is the Mother’s Day celebration and a community picnic for Campagna as well. After the 10:30 am mass, families and individuals wishing to participate will meet at the oratory; a picnic will follow.

On June 10th, registrations for Grest 2001 (free) will close, with a group of mothers actively involved. The first week is scheduled from July 2 to 6, and the second from September 3 to 7.

Summer stays and other initiatives

As mentioned, due to high demand, this summer, the parish will once again organize a mountain stay in Sant’Antonio di Mavignola, in the Valbrenta, in a landscape that speaks for itself. The stay will be from June 18 to 25 (eight days) and is aimed at children from first grade to second grade of middle school. Registrations are collected by filling out the relevant form and paying a deposit until all spots are filled.
