Brescia Province Hosts National Primary School Composition Competition Awards

The official awards ceremony for the “1st National Composition Competition for Primary Schools” will take place next Saturday, May 19th. The event is organized by the Municipal Administration and the State Middle School “28 May 1974” of Padenghe, with sponsorship not only from the municipality itself but also from the Province of Brescia.

The dedicated jury, composed of Boris Porena, Antonio Giacometti, and Carlo Pirola, convened in recent days to evaluate the 24 submitted works. They did not deem any first prize to be appropriate. Instead, they decided to award the Second Prize of the First Category, reserved for “Original Compositions for Elementary Level,” to Maestro Evelina Viola from Varese for her piece “ReLandia.”

Awards and Event Schedule

In the second category, “Arrangements for the Middle Level,” the jury decided on a tie between Roberto Olzer from Verbania with the piece “Sciccareddu” and Dario Casali from Botticino with “Un giorno qualsiasi.”

The awards ceremony will be held at 6:30 PM on Saturday in the conference hall of the West Garda Congress Center in Padenghe, following a series of events specifically organized to celebrate this highly significant and unique event in Italy. We reiterate that the competition received an extraordinarily high and unexpected number of musical works submitted.

The program includes: Thursday, May 17, and Friday, May 18, at 8:30 PM, the “2nd Festival of Middle Schools with Musical Focus of the Province of Brescia.” Participating schools include: “Virgilio” of Brescia; “Guerini” of Bagnolo Mella; “Zammarchi” of Manerbio; “Perlasca” of Rezzato; “Toscanini” of Chiari; and “28 maggio 1974” of Padenghe sul Garda.

On Saturday, May 19, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, a concert featuring the Chamber Orchestra “Milano Classica” will take place with actor Roberto Recchia. In the afternoon, at 3:00 PM, a Round Table discussion entitled “The Composition of Ensemble Music for Primary Schools and the Future of Musical Education within the Reform of School Cycles” will be held.

The speakers will include Pasquale Del Giudice, Antonio Giacometti, Alberto Spinelli, and Ciro Fiorentino. At 6:30 PM, the Closing Concert of the “Milano Classica” Chamber Orchestra with actor Roberto Recchia will take place. Following this, the winning works will be announced in the presence of Brescia Province’s Superintendent of Public Education Mauro Parolini, the Mayor of Padenghe Giancarlo Allegri, the Cultural Department Councilor Ornella Franchi, and the teachers from Scuola Media “28 maggio ’74”, the initiators and driving force behind the event.

An exhibition of editions and musical instruments will also be set up in conjunction with the Competition.

Goals and Activities of the Event

“The aim of this initiative,” emphasizes Ornella Franchi, the Cultural Department Councilor of the Municipality of Padenghe, “is to showcase the musical activities carried out at Scuola Media di Padenghe. It is indeed one of the few institutions with a musical focus offering studies in the following instruments: piano, horn, violin, flute.”

She continues, “The main objectives of the contest are: the creation of an archive of sheet music designed for middle schools with a musical focus, accessible to teachers, operators, and students for educational activities within the school, and the production of new works to enrich the repertoire for young students.”

The sheet music archive, stored at Scuola Media di Padenghe, will be available to consult by anyone interested over the years.

All winning pieces will be published by Edizione Wicky of Milan, while YAMAKA Musica Italia has been the official sponsor of this National Composition Competition.
