Eugenio Rocco Exhibition Leads Lonato’s Antique and Modern Fair
The exhibition by Lonato painter Eugenio Rocco will be the highlight of the antique and modern items fair scheduled for tomorrow in Lonato’s historic center.
The opening, this evening at 6 pm, will take place in the Celesti Room at the municipality, just a few hours before the Mercantico edition.
Eugenio Rocco, born in Lonato on July 13, 1933, is considered the founder of fantastical realism, an artistic movement created in the early 1950s, inspired by the Milanese school of Carlo Carrà, from whom Rocco learned drawing and color technique.
Initially linked to realism and live drawing, he later distanced himself from it to use the vehicle of imagination to better represent his thoughts and the artistic themes that characterize him.
Fundamental themes of his painting include: nature, seen in its absolute perfection rebelling against human violence; women, the ultimate expression of beauty, both in body and spirit; religion, which remains at the threshold between mysticism and ongoing inner struggle.
Lastly, but not least, is the theme of matter, seen as a great source of energy in constant movement.
Numerous artworks are featured in this retrospective, which recounts the artist’s long artistic journey. Despite ongoing health issues, Rocco continues to pursue new technological and painterly research, with a keen focus on graphics.
Meanwhile, the Lonato Mercantico will also host the Book Fair in via Tarello and via Gaspari, guided tours of monuments, an exhibition titled «Things of the Past» by Claudio Bersan in via Repubblica (open 9 am-12 pm and 2-6 pm), and finally, wine tastings and cheese sampling in piazza Martiri della Libertà.
The second edition of the Book Show (from 10 am to 7 pm) will offer an authentic immersion into novels and essais, adventure books, fantasy, history, and culture.
In short, an exciting excursion for all ages, tastes, and budgets.
Some of the most renowned bookstores and publishers from our province are participating, including: Libreria Ferrata, Grafo Edizioni, Le Chat Noir Marco, Selene Libri srl, Libreria Marino (Brescia), Libreria Zanetti (Montichiari), and Società Via Sante Sas (Roncadelle).
Additionally, bookstores from Veneto are expected to join the event.
The initiative is organized by the departments of Commerce and Culture.
