Limone Landslide Repair Underway Amid Concerns of June Deadline

The latest issue of the Comunità del Garda newsletter features a stunning photograph of the landslide south of Limone. The helicopter shot allows for a full appreciation of its extent: over one hundred meters of slope failure, the road ripped away, and debris reaching all the way to Lake Garda.

Interventions on the landslide

For months, alternating one-way traffic has been in place on the landslide. The restoration is currently in its second phase. Initially, workers removed all unstable material, including soil and rocks, down to solid bedrock.

Next, protective netting has been installed on the landslide area: three nets at different levels, transverse, serving as rockfall barriers; another net laid in contact with the rock to contain any minor slips.

Currently, dozens of micropiles are being driven to reconstruct the foundation of the roadbed. This will be followed by retaining walls overlooking the lake, gravel fill, and asphalt paving.

Perspectives and doubts

Completion is expected by June, but Mayor Martinelli doubts that this deadline can be met.
