Lonato Safe Driving Course for Youth Led by Brescia Resources
The large courtyard of the «Genux» nightclub in Lonato hosted a safe driving course yesterday morning, organized by the provincial Department of Public Education, led by Mauro Parolini, in collaboration with the Automobile Club of Brescia and the Autogerma school, importer of Audi and Volkswagen.
The initiative targets the 1,600 high school students in the province who, after obtaining their driving licenses, face the dangers of the road amid increasing traffic.
“Too many accidents are plaguing our areas,” emphasized Parolini. “Especially among young people, who pay the highest price in terms of human lives. «Safe Driving» aims to teach new license holders to go slow, respect the traffic laws, and observe certain behavioral norms to enhance safety.”
“Our goal is to address the problem at its roots.” Parolini also pointed out that the initiative has a total cost of 320 million euros, of which 150 million is funded by the Provincial Administration, another 150 million by the Banca Popolare di Brescia (official sponsor), and 20 million by the Aci.
Director Gianluigi Medeghini highlighted the contribution of the organization, “which has always been attentive to youth issues and actively engaged in safety. The «Safe Driving» course is just one of many facets of our activity in the area.”
He expressed reassurance in the enthusiastic participation of many students who attend these lessons, aware that their safety is at stake.
During the courses, responsible young people are evident. Getting into a car does not mean holding a toy and rushing; it means knowing how to manage the vehicle, which, if well driven, can deliver excellent performance while respecting the rules.
Practical Driving Tests
But how is the teaching structured? Yesterday morning, in the courtyard of «Genux», the course for learning basic safe driving skills was led by Silvano Baccaglio, the head instructor of the course, who has been sharing his personal experience as an expert driver with young people since late April.
How are the tests organized? Baccaglio himself illustrates. “Safety during a braking maneuver with obstacle avoidance, with or without ABS (vehicle braking system), understeering, oversteering, and differentiated braking.”
In addition, a half-hour theoretical session is included, covering topics such as the correct position on the steering wheel, the importance of seat belts, the airbag system, and load transfer on vehicles.
Students from the Bagatta Classical High School in Desenzano, in groups of about twenty (their turn), demonstrated great mastery of the vehicles, despite heavy rain during the tests that extended the braking distances on the wet asphalt.
In the end, everyone was satisfied. It is worth noting that Autogerma provided the vehicles, working in synergy with the Aci, for the tests conducted or planned in Desenzano, Salò, Darfo, Manerbio, Palazzolo, and Montichiari.
