Manerba to Get New Roundabout to Improve Road Safety and Traffic Flow

Within a few months, the Crociale of Manerba will be completely redesigned with the creation of a roundabout that will eliminate the traffic signal congestion, hopefully making road traffic along the Desenzano Salò state highway more fluid, as well as improving access to Manerba and its beaches from Polpenazze.

Confirming this project officially are Provincial Public Works Councillor Mauro Parolini and the mayor of Manerba Isidoro Bertini. Finally, good news after many unfortunate incidents that daily plague this heavily congested and often clogged main road.

Current Status and Future Planning

This road still remains under the ownership of ANAS and has so far been insensitive to the numerous fatal accidents that periodically occur. There has never been a horizontal signage intervention dedicated to pedestrians; the only pedestrian crossing from Cunettone to Desenzanino is the one established by the municipality of Padenghe after yet another tragedy.

Now it appears, and one hopes, that within a few months, this road will be transferred from ANAS to the Province. In the meantime, the Province has already begun a series of project studies aimed at improving road safety through the implementation of measures and signage, including pedestrian movement.

Meanwhile, Councillor Parolini invites mayors whose territories are crossed by this, soon to be abolished, “State Road” to prepare potential requests for the construction of pedestrian crossings to be sent to ANAS. These requests will be supported by the Provincial Administration to ensure their swift implementation.

Renovation Projects and Specific Interventions

Manerba del Garda will be the first location to see a roundabout constructed. In fact, there will be two roundabouts; the second will be part of an urban development plan currently underway, located right near the Crociale.

Recently, the Province assigned the works to the company that won the contract, involving a total expenditure of 800 million euros: 500 million paid by the municipality, and 300 million by the Province.

However, even the roundabouts along this SS572 are now considered by the mayors as insufficient to address the increasing dangers. According to Isidoro Bertini, there should be plans for underpasses designed to eliminate precisely those critical points, with contraflow lanes to remove all lateral entries—more or less significant—which often cause accidents and are the scene of dangerous incidents along the “road of death.”

After Manerba, according to statements by Provincial Public Works Councillor Parolini, a further two roundabouts are to be constructed in Padenghe, along with the reconstruction of the Cunettone roundabout.
