Construction Progress of Garda Motorway Tunnel Nears Completion by Mid-June

The progress continues according to plan at the construction site of the gallery on the western Garda motorway. The workers from the Oberosler-Collini company have excavated approximately 730 meters of rock from the mountain, and barring unlikely setbacks, the tunnel should be completed by mid-June. The excavation proceeds, as always, on four fronts: from Riva towards Limone, they have reached 250 meters into the bowels of Rocchetta, while from Limone to Riva, men and machines have advanced roughly 260 meters. The other two fronts are internal, opened after the completion of the service tunnel, which runs perpendicular to the main tunnel: towards the north, over 90 meters have been excavated, and towards the south, more than 120 meters.

Progress and future works

Once the tunnel is finished, the company will need at least another two to three weeks to install pipes and electrical cables inside the gallery and to construct the retaining walls on which the sidewalks will later be placed. By sometime after mid-July, the 960 meters of tunnel could already be ready to open to traffic.

After the tourist season, in addition, finishing works and final reinforcement of the tunnel will become necessary.
