Lazise Volunteering Event Celebrates Social Impact and Community Engagement

In 2001, it was the International Year of Volunteering, and associations aimed to promote an entire day dedicated to this sector and its implications within the social fabric. All of this occurs “simultaneously,” at the provincial level, on Sunday in Lazise, Legnago, San Bonifacio, and Villafranca. Lazise gathers all the volunteers from the Ulss 22 district, including the Baldo-Garda area and the entire Valpolicella. This is therefore an opportunity to raise awareness and to attest to the irreplaceable work of the silent army of volunteers.

Organization and objectives of the event

The execution of the event was entrusted to Cavalier Gianni Faccioli, the eclectic president of the Avis di Lazise section. “It will be an intense day,” explains Gianni Faccioli, “during which all the associations operating within the Ulss 22 territory will bring their banners and members into the square to celebrate, but above all to convey the message of volunteering to the public.”

“Today, volunteering is trendy,” emphasizes Faccioli, “and sometimes people distort the true meaning of working voluntarily for others. Volunteering means rolling up your sleeves and dedicating some of your time to those less fortunate to realize a common project, a single purpose. Entirely free of charge and with great humility.”

Today in Lazise, in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, volunteering will be showcased and will engage with the people for the people. All provincial associations will oversee a booth where they will display their “services” and proposals. There will also be a booth where even smaller, more localized, less-known entities can present the aims and interventions of their organization within the territory.

Program of the day

The day’s schedule is full. At 10 a.m., all associations will gather in the square, and the photographic exhibition on volunteering will be inaugurated. The entire square will be decorated with photographs: it is the 2nd competition dedicated to Luigi Barbieri, the late director of the newsletter “Donare Avis.” Following this, there will be the raising of the flag at the old port, a parade of all associations with banners and flags through the streets of the historic center, led by the Castelnuovo del Garda marching band, and at 11 a.m., a Mass with the participation of the Schola Cantorum.

Then, there will be greetings from the mayor, and at noon, still in the square, a mini-concert and an aperitif for everyone. But that’s not all. In the afternoon, at 3 p.m., musical entertainment and performances will commence. The Latin American group Kaché Latino will perform.

At 5 p.m., awards of merit will be presented to participants in the photography contest. In the evening, live music from the ’60s and modern hits, from Battisti to Celentano, dance music, and karaoke with the duo Rino Condercuri & Katia Tarocco.
