Lake Shore Trail to Connect Sirmione, Peschiera, and Lazise by Spring
The Municipality has decided: the section of road still missing to connect Sirmione, Peschiera, Castelnuovo, and Lazise will be built. And it will be built – apparently – by spring.
This news will surely delight walking enthusiasts, cycling fans (who, however, will only enjoy half the route), and everyone who wants to admire the beauty of the environment.
The administration has therefore resumed the project to complete the route that, within its territory, was previously abandoned despite being public land.
The matter had already drawn the attention of the mayor of the lakeside town, who wanted to give it a different and significantly more charming image.
To eliminate the issues that in previous years had prevented visitors from continuing a bike or footpath, according to his logic of continuity, there was a desire to better explore the natural aspects of this part of the Veronese shoreline.
Intervention and Motivations of the Mayor
But the reasons why Castelnuovo wanted to intervene in the realization of such a demanding public work, in terms of financial burden, are explained by Mayor Ferdinando Emanuelli himself.
“The idea,” he clarifies, “started years ago, specifically in 1996. The first thing that was considered was creating a beach with a swimming pool, roughly five thousand square meters, on which a square and a bar were built.
At that point, and in line with what other Municipalities had done, perhaps more interested in the route than us, we wanted to involve the administration in completing a beautification project that, in my humble opinion, needed to be done.”
“The works,” specifies the mayor, “will begin this autumn, with a cost estimated between seven hundred and eight hundred million lira, and will include paving the route, lighting, and the bicycle path, only partially, due to the narrow width of the transit area.”
“The hope is that the project can be presented in spring 2002.”
“Another novelty in our area,” says the mayor, “is the creation of a dock for navigation: right where the walk ends.”
All designed and conceived to allow tourists to be transported even to Gardaland. Let’s not forget that the visitor is an invaluable resource for all the Municipalities bordering the lake, but also, I believe, for those like mine inland.”
“At least for a spirit of collaboration that should never be lacking.”
