Salò Hosts Third Annual ‘One Hundred Associations’ Day Focused on Community and Graffiti Cleanup

Tomorrow, as already announced, the “One Hundred Associations” Day will take place in Salò, organized by the Municipality (particularly by Bruno Marelli) and now in its third edition.

Participants and Activities

Cultural, sports, and volunteer groups will be present along the lakefront and in the city center streets from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM to showcase their activities.

There will also be performances. In case of bad weather, the event will be postponed to October 14th.

Initiative for Cleaning and Protecting the Historic Center

Among the interesting initiatives, we remember the “Spazza graffiti” initiative, organized by the “Amici del golfo,” led by Aurelio Nastuzzo.

Facades of some buildings in the historic center, defaced by graffiti, will be cleaned and painted. At 8:45 AM, volunteers armed with brushes and aprons (or a worn-out jumpsuit) will gather under the arcades of the town hall.

Afterwards, they will begin their mission of… peace.

Restoration and Awareness Actions

“We will intervene in Tresanda S.Orsola, via Scaino, and via di Mezzo, beautiful medieval streets,” says Nastuzzo.

“Many house facades have been shamefully vandalized with graffiti. Seven professional decorators (Aurelio Bettoni, Roberto Giacomini, better known as the son of Doro, Marino Apollonio, Oliviero Stefani, Franco Andreatta, Michele Kristic, and Carmelo Pezzotti) have helped us prepare the paints, meaning the pastel tones used around the lake.

“Homeowners are very happy, and they will surely join us. Many have already arranged for their walls to be cleaned, but they found new graffiti shortly after.”

“It’s useless to spend money if, shortly after, the situation reverts to its previous state. By creating a sort of movement, we believe we can contribute to raising awareness on the issue.”

“We hope for good participation. To promote the initiative (the second after the debut on May 1st), we distributed flyers in schools and shops.”

History and Past Actions of Nastuzzo

Nastuzzo was already the protagonist of a performance in the 1980s, together with the Calchera Committee, one of the oldest neighborhoods of Salò, when he decorated the main street with daisies, transforming it into a colorful garden.

Back then, a slogan encouraged people to “say it with flowers.”

To draw the attention of local authorities to unresolved issues (the re-paving, the enhancement of lighting, regulation of urban cleanliness, the introduction of parking restrictions, opening Gazzere alley to connect to the lakefront, and replacing the door of the Liceo), the group brightened the asphalt with hundreds of daisies.

Current Goals and Actions Against Graffiti

Now, the focus is on tackling the graffiti on walls.

The autumn cleaning aims to clip the nails of graffiti artists who, undeterred, continue to deface the walls.
