Volta Mantovana Hosts Seminars on Commedia dell’arte and the Jester

VOLTA. “The Jester and Commedia dell’arte”. This is the title of the series of theatrical seminars starting Thursday 11th at 9 PM, running through the month of May, held in Volta Mantovana within the stables of Palazzo Gonzaga Guerrieri. Organized by the company ‘De’ Confidenti, the same group that performed in the town squares during last June’s Renaissance days.

The company has roamed the streets of the town, entertaining with dance, music, and singing at the Convivio Voluptatis. The sessions will explore various aspects of Commedia dell’arte (from “the game of gazes,” to character study, timing, and improvisation) and the art of the jester (from performing on stilts, spitting fire, to juggling).

Instructors and organizers will include Bepi Monaj, Sonia Rosset, and Anna Gajotti. The initiative aims to contribute to a broader project involving the creation, in short timeframes, of a theatrical costume workshop and a paper-mâché set design workshop, all intended not only for fun but also for organizing medieval and Renaissance-themed festivals and reenactments, building on events the Municipality has been organizing for several years.

The seminars will begin, as mentioned, on the evening of Thursday the 11th and will continue with weekly sessions on Sundays, from 10:30 AM to 1 PM for the first group, and in the evening from 9 PM to 11:30 PM for a second group. The courses, also conducted by the same company, will take place in the municipalities of Sabbioneta, Ostiglia, Ostiano, Dolo (Venice), Rivolta d’Adda, Bozzolo, and Bondeno (Ferrara).
