Desenzano Council Debates Parco delle Piscine and Community Solidarity

On Monday evening, the Desenzano City Council opened by remembering the figure of Filippo Predaroli, the 31-year-old business executive who lost his life in the Linate air disaster, where 118 people died.

After observing a minute of silence, an urgent inquiry was addressed by opposition representatives Alberto Abbadini, Fiorenzo Pienazza, and Rodolfo Bertoni.

The councilors asked why certain procedures outlined in the project for the construction of the famous Parco delle Piscine had not been followed.

In particular, the three councilors pointed out that the pathways within the park were not built with autobloccanti, a specific type of paving material used for surfaces.

Instead of these materials, according to the opposition’s inquiry, «a red-colored cement pathway was built, which creates a significant visual impact and spoils the beauty of the landscape.»

Finally, several trees and shrubs located around the pond would have been removed.

Responses from the administration and interventions on the_cession

Assessore Tommaso Giardino, who was called upon, reserved the right to provide a written response but already indicated that the decision made by the mayor’s office will stand, «because the material used has a significantly lower maintenance cost than autobloccanti.»

Another dispute arose over the cession of an area (about 500 sqm), to be used by the middle school «Catullo».

This cession was aimed at constructing another building for the hotel management school «Caterina de’ Medici». The mayor and Giustacchini responded to the minority’s inquiry by stating that the failure to present the expansion project for the hotel management school would have resulted in the loss of funding from the Province.

Gesta of solidarity

However, the Monday session also featured other moments of solidarity, with both the majority and minority agreeing completely.

First of all, the request by the Lega councilor Polloni was accepted, who proposed holding a mass in memory of the thousands of victims caused by the devastating terrorist attack against the Towers of New York, which occurred last September 11.

The service will be held on November 2.

The proposal by Pienazza was also accepted, asking all councilors to donate a session token in the council to the families affected by this tragedy.
