Anffas Gets New HQ and Lakeside Redevelopment in Desenzano
New Anffas headquarters and public works along the lakeside
The Anffas will finally have its own headquarters, shared with the Croce Rossa. The disability advocacy organization, which serves a significant number of clients in Desenzano, will dedicate nearly half a billion lire, while the municipal administration will contribute 1 billion and 400 million lire. In total, the new building will cost just under 2 billion lire.
The project was presented and detailed by the public works councilor Tommaso Giardino during the recent council meeting. Among the public works included, there is one of particular interest to the local population. It concerns the beautification efforts (also referred to by technicians as “extraordinary maintenance”) along Lungolago Battisti, in the section between the Ponte alla Veneziana and the alleyway of Le Lavandaie, the small street leading into via Roma.
Redevelopment interventions and funding
As Giardino confirmed to «Bresciaoggi», this intervention will involve an expenditure of 1 billion and 150 million lire from the Municipality, financed through a loan. Is this perhaps the second phase of the lungolago project?
«No – responds the councilor – that will be discussed further down the line. These are works aimed at better repairing sidewalks and roads in that central part of the city.» Giardino does not wish to reveal further details on this delicate topic. According to reliable sources, it appears that the second part of the controversial Ramella project may be nearing its end.
Nevertheless, this remains only a rumor about which, at present, no one wants to speak. Let’s look at the two interventions in more detail. The executive project for the Anffas headquarters has already been reviewed; next will come the tender process. «Work will begin shortly – assures Giardino – this is a building with a ground floor that will be constructed in Rivoltella, in via Durighello, near the new Trebeschi middle school and adjacent to the Centro di Aggregazione Giovanile.
Details on the work and the headquarters
The subterranean level will feature five parking spaces, including one for an ambulance. On the ground floor, there will also be the Croce Rossa Italiana headquarters, with the remaining area dedicated to Anffas. This will include substantial spaces for laboratories, gyms, reading rooms, medical clinics, and various services: a total of 760 square meters, plus an additional 120 square meters occupied by the Red Cross.
Along the lakeside, finally, the Anelli administration intends to fulfill its promise of creating beautification works. Once contracted, these works could commence as early as possible, with residents themselves hoping that it happens before the start of the tourist season.
The paving will be redone using a high-quality porphyry; sidewalks will be widened without removing parking spaces or trees. «Everything will stay as before», guarantees Tommaso Giardino.
Traffic interventions and controversies
Additionally, beautification is planned for via Borgo Regio and via Crocefisso, between the Duomo and the Post Office. Regarding this project, the councilor added a pointed comment: «Two central streets forgotten by the previous left-wing administration when they worked on via Roma».
