TTG Trade Fair Focuses on Post-9/11 Tourism Challenges and Solutions
TTG is a trade fair where holidays are sold: tourism operators bring their respective offers’ packages, and travel agencies observe, evaluate, and, if convinced, make purchases.
The exhibiting companies number 800, spread across 600 booths. In 2000, visitors exceeded 10,000, and this year, attendance is expected to increase significantly.
News and international context
For its 38th edition, opening today at the Palafiere della Baltera, there is an important novelty closely linked to the particular situation international tourism is experiencing after September 11 and the consequent sharp decline in airline passengers.
The Fiavet, the federation of travel agencies representing 2,000 companies, canceled the congress it had organized in Agadir but agreed to offer its members a forum for discussion during the TTG.
Program and themes of the fair
The fair’s proceedings will begin at 2:30 PM with a forum on «International Emergency. How Tourism is Responding», during which operators will assess the crisis and propose remedies for a sector of primary importance to the economy of the entire West.
Another new feature is «Professione Turismo» (Tourism Profession), a thematic area aimed at new managers (including potential ones) in the sector, to highlight training opportunities and employment prospects, as well as costs and professionalism needs: universities, industry associations, travel agencies, and consulting firms participate.
Duration and collateral events
TTG will run until next Sunday, with a series of meetings and debates for all tastes.
