Castiglione Census Reveals Higher Building Count and Demographic Data

The data collection for the census is now underway, with municipal surveyors working to provide the most accurate information possible to Istat.

And even in the town of Aloisiana, where the census coordination is entrusted to the Demographic Services, the first numbers are emerging. The phase concerning buildings has indeed been completed, and those concerning people and businesses have begun.

Therefore, it is already certain how many buildings are on the territory of Castiglione: there are 2,500. This is an amount greater than the estimates held by the Camera di Commercio di Mantova, which hovered around 1,700 real estate units.

Data and estimates on the territory

The data confirms the high building density of the center of upper Mantua, which, on the other hand, sits on a total surface area smaller than many less populated towns.

With the second phase of the census, other values will also be verified, which are already available to the municipal registry, and will thus be further checked.

For example, the number of families, estimated to be around 6,000, or that of foreigners, now reaching 1,300, excluding non-residents.

Economic activities and surveyors

Finally, the productive activities, whether industrial, commercial, or service-oriented, show discrepancies depending on whether the data is taken from the Camera di Commercio database or that of the relevant municipal office.

The former states there are 1,780 establishments, while the latter reports 2,300. Once again, the final decision will be made by the census.

A total of twenty-four surveyors have been recruited by the Demographic Services for data collection, mostly university students.

For citizens’ safety, they carry a visibly worn ID badge issued by Istat and bearing the castiglione municipality stamp.

Anyone wishing for further confirmation before allowing the census taker into their home can inquire by phone at the town hall.

In the coming days, questionnaires will be delivered for completion, possibly with the help of the surveyors, who will then collect them.

The census for 2001 is expected to be completed by early November.
