The Lakes Fair will open its doors at Villa “La Tassinara” on Friday at 8:30 a.m. with a workshop, while the official inauguration is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., attended by the mayor of Desenzano, Cino Anelli, and a large group of local and regional authorities.

After the close of activities at 2 p.m. and a working lunch, the foreign participants, hosted by Pro – Brixia, will depart for a guided tour of Brescia’s historic center. The day will conclude at 8:30 p.m. with a gala dinner at the Esplanade restaurant in Desenzano.

The event will continue on October 20 and 21 with a promotional tour of Lake Garda. The edition of Lakes Fair 2001 features 33 travel agencies from Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, and Sweden.

Italian Participants and the Tourist Offer of the Lakes

On the Italian front, more than one hundred registrations have so far been received, including consortia and local associations, as well as dozens of hotel facilities. Represented provinces include Alessandria, Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Lecco, Milan, Mantua, Novara, Perugia, Trento, Varese, Verbania, Vicenza, Verona, and Viterbo.

It is important to highlight that the lake tourism offer is one of the strengths of the national product. It is a high-quality product, distinct and different from beach resorts, and it is always associated with cultural and thermal spa offerings.

The most significant presence comes from the regions of Northern Italy, accounting for 62% of total tourist arrivals and, for lake tourism specifically, as much as 95%. The entire tourist movement around the lakes records 5 million arrivals and 23 million overnight stays (data from Enit), with an annual turnover of 5 trillion lire.
