Maurizio Vandelli Performs Iconic 60s Hits at Sesto Senso, Desenzano
The charismatic leader of Equipe 84, the King of Italian Rock of the 1960s and 1970s, the warm voice behind Io ho in mente te and 29 settembre, written in collaboration with Lucio Battisti, will take the stage, thanks to Dima Automobili, at the SESTO SENSO club in Desenzano del Garda (BS), on Friday, October 26, 2001, at 12:00 AM. He will deliver, without a doubt, a show packed with emotion, revisiting some of the hits from his vast catalog of songs.
Biography and Career
Vandelli is one of the most renowned artists of the “native” rock scene. From childhood, he showed a particular aptitude for music and entertainment. With his friend Victor Sogliani, he began performing in dance halls. In 1963, Equipe 84 was formed, comprising Maurizio and Victor themselves, along with Alfio Cantarella and Franco Ceccarelli. The band became one of the most popular of the time: some of their most famous performances include interpretations of songs like Auschwitz, written by Francesco Guccini. Among their covers, they performed Venus by Shocking Blue, a song that also achieved success in different eras through versions by Bananarama and Tom Jones.
Following the band’s breakup, Vandelli pursued a solo career. Almost as a game, he formed a band called Sorapis with other musicians, which included Zucchero, Dody Battaglia (from Pooh), Fio Zanotti, Umbi Maggi (formerly of Nomadi), and Michele Torpedine. The Sorapis played only easy listening, performed in Cortina during the Christmas season, and released the album Walzer d’un Blues.
