President Ciampi to Visit Desenzano for Italy’s Unity Anniversary
It has now been officially confirmed that President of the Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, will visit Desenzano on the occasion of the November 4th anniversary.
The other afternoon, the first of the meetings promoted by the Prefettura di Brescia took place for the organization of the rapid visit of the Head of State to Solferino and San Martino della Battaglia.
From 12:20 to 12:40, a live broadcast by Rai from the Risorgimento Tower of San Martino (inaugurated in 1959 with the presence of French President Charles de Gaulle) is also scheduled, during which Ciampi will send a message to the entire nation.
Organization and Participants
In the coming days, other meetings will be held, although the organizational setup will be arranged by the Prefettura, and for public order, by the Questura.
Attending the Brescia meeting, among others, was Desenzano Mayor, Cino Anelli.
“The entire program of the day will be coordinated by the Prefect, Annamaria Cancellieri, and Dr. Fausto Fondrieschi, president of the Società Solferino e San Martino. Our Municipality will obviously contribute to logistics and all other related initiatives,” – emphasizes Anelli.
“This is certainly an extraordinary event for us; we are pleased, and we are also aware of the importance of our Head of State’s presence, which aims to remind Italians, especially the younger generations, of the significance of November 4th, which does not merely mark the end of a bloody war but also Italy’s reunification: hence, a message of peace.”
Itinerary and Schedule of the Visit
According to initial reports, Ciampi will depart from Ciampino aboard the Presidential airplane in the early morning of November 4th, with a stop at the military airport in Ghedi.
He will be greeted by top political and local authorities. The convoy will then move towards Solferino, in upper Mantovano, where the President of the Republic will visit the Ossuary and the headquarters of the Italian Red Cross.
The second stop will be at the RisorgIMENTO Tower and Ossuary of San Martino della Battaglia, where Ciampi is scheduled to lay a wreath in front of a guard of Carabinieri Corazzieri and military representations.
Between 12:20 and 12:40, as mentioned, a Rai live connection is scheduled, during which Ciampi is expected to send a message to Italians.
Finally, in the afternoon, he will visit Brescia, where he will likely attend an exhibition or might see a few displays.
Local Commitments and Organization
So far, the initial details of Carlo Azeglio Ciampi’s visit to the areas of Italian unity have been made public.
The Municipal Administration is already fine-tuning its organizational machinery: identifying traffic detours, decorating the places where the presidential convoy will pass (possibly also involving the Ministers of Defense and Interior), organizing associations of veterans, flags, and posters.
For San Martino, an extraordinary day is expected, reminiscent of June 1959, when the Tower was inaugurated.
This visit to Garda represents Ciampi’s second trip to the area within a few months. On July 8th, we recall, he visited Limone and Riva for the inauguration of the Galleria dei Record, built after the December 2000 landslide.
