City Council to Approve Ovest Mantovano Library System and Education Plan

The city council will meet on Tuesday at Palazzo Gonzaga, with six items on the agenda.

The primary focus of the assembly will be on the cultural and educational sectors, with the approval of the new inter-municipal library system and the 2001-2002 education rights plan. These measures will be presented to the councilors by the education and culture assessor, Giuseppe Bertoli.

The library system and territorial aggregations

The first pertains to the creation of the Ovest Mantovano library system, an extensive territorial aggregation that will replace the old systems of Alto Mantovano, del Chiese, and Oglio-Po.

“An important event for the culture of the territory,” explains Bertoli, “involving nearly 30 municipalities. This merger will not only improve library service management but also promote comprehensive initiatives more independently. Additionally, small local realities will be protected and supported to grow. It has been a long and significant effort, a historic innovation.”

The big system, as its name playfully suggests among librarians, will stretch from Ponti sul Mincio to Viadana, including the municipalities of the three former aggregations, as well as others outside each network until now. It will have a single director and a librarian-coordinator, for which a public competition has been announced. This person must operate across the entire territory of Ovest Mantovano.

Castiglione will serve as the main administrative municipality, Viadana will host the central library, and Asola will be the operational headquarters, given its central position. This is the first major Mantuan aggregation promoted and financed by the Regione Veneto for the future, while the remaining provincial areas still operate with the old systems, which are destined to disappear.

Other items on the agenda

In addition to approving the agreement for the library services, the council will discuss the plan for education rights, which will include innovations compared to previous years while maintaining the overall structure established last year, reaffirming the commitment to local educational institutions.

The health assessor, Erminia Biaggi, will report to the assembly regarding the municipality’s intention to exercise its pre-emption rights for the fifth pharmaceutical outlet granted in Castiglione.

Approved during one of the previous council sessions, this pharmacy, which will join the three in the historic center and the one in Gozzolina, is expected to be developed within the next few years between the provincial road to Carpenedolo and the former state road to Montichiari, according to technical office indications.

Finally, on the agenda are a land subdivision for a residence in Grole and some modifications to the municipal statute.
