Veronese Bell Ringers Gather for Regional Tradition and Concerts

There will be ten teams participating in this day of sound and friendship: Cavaion Veronese, Cavalcaselle, Costermano, Pastrengo, Cisano, Piovezzano, Pozzolengo, San Giorgio in Salici, Castelnuovo, and San Zeno di Montagna. All together, these entities form Zone 1 of the Associazione suonatori di campane a sistema veronese.

Meaning and Tradition

This is a fixed gathering, held at different times and in different ways depending on the zone, where all groups from a single sector of the association come together around a single bell tower to reaffirm their identity and simultaneously acknowledge their belonging to a broader world — one that, fortunately, is continuously expanding.

Program and Activities

Today afternoon, the focus is on the lake area and its hinterland. The program involves all groups meeting at the bell tower of Costermano around 9 a.m. There, the groups will begin their performances, accompanied by a jovial refreshment arranged for the occasion.

Division and Final Activity

At the end, the group will split into three sections, each responsible for a small cluster of bell towers. In most cases, these are concerts (the proper term for the ensembles of bells on the Veronese bell towers), performed rarely throughout the year, and which are—in this context—rediscovered and brought back into activity.

Itineraries of the Groups

The first group will head to Lumini and Pai; the second will focus on concerts in Pesina and Pazzon; the third will perform in Affi and Caprino.
