Desenzano Trails Project Aims to Create Community-Driven Hill Routes

The Discovered Trails” is the summary of a project around which the Desenzano section of the Italian Alpine Club is organizing itself. It has garnered the attention, interest, and collaboration primarily of the Municipal Administration and the Regional Forest Agency: for months, the latter has been conducting a meticulous survey of trails, or rather, of possible routes that require maintenance, cleaning, and signage to become proper trails, involving areas of landscapes that are significant, extending across the entire regional territory.

Within the territory of Desenzano, an initial route was immediately identified in the most valuable area, most cherished by citizens, who in the not-so-distant past have not hesitated to raise their voices for its preservation: Monte Corno and the Madergnago area. A joint inspection has already been carried out by the Sports Councillor Giuliano Garagna and the project manager for the Cai section, Mr. Lovisetto; agreements are already being considered for the right of pedestrian passage with the interested properties, some of which, contacted about the project, have already expressed their full willingness to support its realization.

Route Description and Presentation Evening

Once the project is completed, from Vo’ it will be possible to cross the entire area, partly wooded and partly cultivated, leading directly to the top of the hill and finally descending onto the small ring road in the Massadrino area. The project will be presented to the public next Saturday, November 3rd, at 9 p.m. in the auditorium of Palazzo Todeschini, attended by Mayor Felice Anelli, Sports Councillor Giuliano Garagna, the head of the Brescia Office of the Regional Forest Agency Paolo Castellini, and the president of the Desenzano Cai section, Celestino Marcoli.

The evening’s guest will be Fausto De Stefani, a well-known environmentalist and mountaineer, who will illustrate his speech with slides by Attilio Mutti. The announcement of the initiative has already attracted significant interest from numerous citizens, who have expressed appreciation for the idea and have shared some complaints. Therefore, the organizers expect a lively evening, also because as much space as possible will be given to attendees’ comments.

Objectives and Conclusions of the Project

It should be noted that the realization of this project — already interesting and comprehensive in itself, but considered a first step, as all involved entities have emphasized — will provide Desenzano with an easy countryside trail, of medium duration (about an hour), managed by the Cai section, which will oversee its maintenance and signage. The trail will be open to all those who, instead of the crowded promenade, prefer the tranquility and greenery of the hills near the lake.
