Veneto Shifts Tourism Role to Provinces and Municipalities
There is a revolution in the tourism organization of Veneto. Starting from January 1st, the competencies traditionally held by Tourist Promotion Agencies will transfer to the Provinces, with Municipalities participating in managing the sector. In addition to hospitality, information, assistance, local promotion, and statistical data collection, other functions already partially delegated are also transferred to the Provinces: from the classification and advertising of accommodation prices, to the promotion of consortia and pro loco committees, as well as the promotion of Cai (Clubs Alpini), mountain trails, bivouacs, and via ferrata routes.
The role of regional structures and promotion
As part of the innovation process in Veneto’s primary industry, the promotion of the regional tourism offer within Italy and abroad is assigned to “Associated Structures” (Consortia), all coordinated by the Region as part of its institutional promotion of Veneto’s unified image.
«With a turnover of 20 trillion lire, of which 10 trillion in foreign currency, and 330,000 jobs, tourism is the largest industry in Veneto», highlighted regional tourism councilor Floriano Pra at the opening of the Garda Forum the other evening, dedicated to the new role of the Provinces in the evolution of tourism.
«This activity involves more than 40,000 companies, with 55 million tourist presences last year, but according to projections, it should reach», Pra pointed out, «57 million, despite the post-attack difficulties in America».
