Puegnago Hosts 9th Brescian Truffle Market and Food Festival
Everything is ready in Puegnago to host, next weekend, November 23-24, the 9th edition of the «Mostra mercato provinciale del tartufo bresciano» (Provincial Market Fair of Brescian Truffle), which will also showcase extra virgin olive oil, local typical wines, DOC and table wines, grappas, and local cheeses.
On Saturday, the 24th, in Brescia, at the Ca’ Nöa restaurant, the coveted «Grappa Ottima 2000» awards will be presented during the «Alambicco del Garda 2000» held in Puegnago.
The program for the two days around Lake Garda is full. On Saturday at 9 a.m., the exhibition spaces will open, followed by a discussion with middle school students from San Felice del Benaco and elementary students from Puegnago.
At 10:30 a.m., Dr. Cobelli, director of the Veterinary Medicine Service in Salò, will speak about the resident and migratory fauna of the area.
In the evening, starting at 8 p.m., a «Grand Gala of the Sportsman» organized by the Municipality in collaboration with the Assessorato allo sport (Sports Department) of the Province of Brescia, the municipalities of Valtenesi, Salò, and Desenzano, and coordinated by the Puegnago groups will take place at the town hall.
Besides the mayor of Puegnago, Gianfranco Comincioli, and the provincial councilor Alessandro Sala, representatives from the participating municipalities will also attend.
At the end, there will be a «gathering» featuring culinary specialties prepared by professional chefs and tasting of typical dishes such as truffle and cheese penne: all accompanied by an excellent Groppello wine.
«A gastronomic tasting aimed at rediscovering the pleasure of ancient flavors, created — as the organizers explain — with simple, typical ingredients, true expressions of the most authentic culinary tradition of the local peasant culture».
Sunday activities and a conference on the tradition of truffles
Sunday morning, after the opening of the booths, the Mass (also celebrating the Day of Thanksgiving) will be held, followed by the traditional blessing of agricultural vehicles.
At 11:30 a.m., there will be the official inauguration with the authorities and an aperitif with tastings of course based on truffle.
In the afternoon, at the castle, a dog-powered truffle search contest will take place.
The traditional «Tartufo bresciano» (Brescian Truffle) conference organized by the Associazione tartufai bresciani (Brescian Truffle Hunters Association) will also be held, with speakers: Stefania Coltrini «Il profumo del tartufo» (The Scent of the Truffle); Loretta Marchetti «Il commercio del tartufo» (The Truffle Trade); Virgilio Vezzola «Il tuber macrosporum Vitt.» (The Tuber Macrosporum Vitt.) and the presentation of initial experimental results.
At the end, there will be a performance by the «Piasaroi de Poegnac», followed by a final tasting that will conclude the 9th edition of this Mostra-mercato (Market Fair) at 9:30 p.m.
