Garda Scammers Pose as Police Officers to Target Hoteliers and Shops

They pose as carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, proposing magazine subscriptions from the Carabinieri.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or ones that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be alert and immediately notify the carabinieri – simply dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have become the target of someone who, after receiving money, vanishes.
