Garda Area Scam Warning: Fake Police Calls Offer Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They pose as carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to Army magazines.

They are not soldiers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after collecting your money, disappear without a trace.
