Scammers Pose as Police to Target Garda Business Owners

They disguise themselves as carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the mid and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, at different times, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — simply call 112 — as soon as you suspect being targeted by someone who, after collecting the money, disappears.
