Garda Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Sell Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate carabinieri when telefonically contacting hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, offering magazine subscriptions from the Carabinieri.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

So be cautious and immediately alert the carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

after obtaining the money, disappears without a trace.
