scammers impersonate police in Garda, targeting businesses with fake magazine offers

They impersonate carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the middle and upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to Arma magazines.

These are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have no connection to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who, after taking the money, disappear without a trace.
