Scammers Impersonate Police to Target Hoteliers and Shopkeepers in Garda

They impersonate carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the Arma.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have become a target of individuals who,

after taking the money, disappear without a trace.
