Impostors Impersonate Carabinieri in Garda Region to Scam Locals

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the armed forces.

These are not military personnel, but impostors who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance police, regular police, fire brigades, or municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

after taking the money, disappear without a trace.
