Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri in Garda Area to Ransom Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering magazine subscriptions from the ’ arma.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be affiliated with the finance department, the police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or to publications that have no connection to law enforcement agencies.

So be cautious and immediately alert the true Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after taking the money, disappear.
