Scammers posing as Carabinieri target Garda businesses with fake magazine offers

They pose as Carabinieri when calling hotel owners, retailers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda region, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, firefighters, or municipal guards.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

So be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

after taking the money, disappear from sight.
